What You Need to Know About Health Insurance
Health insurance premiums rise annually. And in an effort to keep company expenses low, my husband’s employer shops around for a new plan practically every year. Switching health insurance providers every other year is annoying, and I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever my husband presents the new health insurance application. But my irritation is short-lived when I reflect on one crucial point - at least I’m not paying the entire bill out-of-pocket.
My husband is itching to grow his side business and rely solely on his self-employed income. I support his efforts. But the thought of paying our own health insurance premiums - every month - scares me to death. We’re relatively healthy people. But I’ve had some health problems pop up in the last couple of years, which would probably inflate our premiums. And let’s not forget those expensive riders (dental, prescription and maternity).
But if we had to, we could pull it off. Like anything in life, there’s an adjustment period. Besides, I consider health insurance a necessity, and I’ll do whatever it takes to have coverage. The key is finding the right plan and carefully selecting benefits.
Interestingly, The Inkthinker Blog recently posted Health Insurance Advice for Freelancers and Other Soleprenuers. If you’re looking to buy health insurance, and you want to get the most coverage for your money, check out some of the suggestions.
