The Infamous Comfort Zone
There’s a post on Freelance Writing Gigs titled, There’s No Whining in Freelance Writing. Although the post is geared toward writers, I believe all freelancers can benefit from the advice. You see, the writer focuses on the inability of some freelancers to step outside their comfort zone and grow as entrepreneurs. I don’t know whether it has to do with the fear of failure or laziness. But some freelancers get stuck in a mold. They get used to certain patterns or routines, and they complain and whine whenever the rules change.
I don’t think I’m afraid of change…but I have been guilty of this behavior a time or two. Like most people, I don’t make a habit of stepping outside my comfort zone. I recognize this problem, and I’m working to overcome this obstacle. I’m ready to take my writing to the next level - magazine writing, editing and perhaps a children’s book. However, I’ve established a decent web-based business, and the work’s steady.
I think about the popular adage- if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Perhaps it’s human nature. As long as things are going good, we don’t see an immediate need to step outside our comfort zones and challenge ourselves. But the second things start to change, we want to branch out….
I do believe this is going to be my year of change. Reading posts like the above keeps me focus on the bigger picture. I need those reminders. If not, I’d likely stick with the same routine, and then have the audacity to complain when things don’t change.

My friends laughed when I said I was going to support my family working from homeā¦until I did. I credit this blog for showing me how to win consistently. Read it!
