What Holds You Back?

Posted by Valencia on March 5th, 2009

Over the years I spoken with many people who’ve had a desire to start their own business. They were either tired of working for other people, needed a flexible schedule, or they wanted to spend more time with their family. Out of all the people who expressed a desire, a small percentage (less than one percent) actually took the plunge.

I realize that everyone’s situation is unique, and some people just aren’t in a position to take a leap of faith. But that shouldn’t stop anyone from achieving their goals. Starting a home business or becoming a telecommuter doesn’t have to be a life altering event. Sure, in the beginning you’ll sacrifice time and perhaps money. But that’s the reality with any new chapter in life.

Some people get comfortable with their present life. They want a change, they need a change…but they’re afraid to take the first step. Others have a hard time narrowing down a business, and some don’t know how to go about starting a business. And because they don’t know the first thing about running a business….they don’t.

But why let fear control your future?

The truth is: you’re going to make mistakes in the beginning. You may lose money, and you may have to look into several business ideas before finding the right one. Some people juggle full-time employment while managing their own business, wherein free time becomes a luxury. But once you’ve gotten your feet wet and settled into a routine…your business will flourish. And looking back…it would have been worth every sacrifice, doubt, and fear.
