Four Things to Do With Your Free Time
So, I had a little free time towards the end of last week, and I did something I haven’t done in a long time - absolutely nothing. Let me explain.
I hate working around the clock - this schedule got old within my first six months of freelancing. And since then, I’ve come up with a schedule that allows me to freelance and still take time for myself during the day. Well the past couple of months have been a little hectic - bit off more than I could chew…again. And I’ve had to tweek my schedule in order to meet deadlines. But, there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel. A project has ended -and I have to say - I’m not disappointed.
Normally when I have extra time on my hand I spend it brainstorming ideas, checking the job boards, working on personal projects, or organizing my files. But not this time around. Freelance Switch recently discussed what to do with free time, and included on their list was relax and use this time to get ahead (this is very tempting). But I came up with my own list of things to do when business slows…and they don’t involve work.
1. Hit the snooze button a few times: My brain functions best in the mornings. I set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. on the weekdays, and I like to start my assignments early. Because I’m into the routine, it’s like second nature, and I wake up early even when the alarm isn’t set. But I have to say, it was nice to lie in bed and not feel rushed.
2. Finish a book: I started reading “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” two years ago and I haven’t finished the book. I still haven’t completed the book, but I was able to knock off a few chapters.
3. Watch YouTube: There is nothing more relaxing than throwing on my headphones, grabbing a blanket, and watching old music videos from the 80’s and 90’s.
4. Organize the bedroom closet: It was starting to get out of hand. And as much as I didn’t want to deal with the clutter, it needed to get done. Besides, it’s only fair to tackle at least one household project while I’m enjoying a little downtime.
