@DJ: You bring up an excellent point. Likewise, I don't like talking about myself. And because I'm easily annoyed by people who like to monopolize conversations by talking about themselves and their achievements, I try not to cross the line.

@Avid: You're absolutely right. A good salesperson is very helpful. Focusing on how our services can benefit clients is an excellent way to approach the situation.

Valencia, I used to feel that way, but seven years in advertising sales - a position I didn't particularly like - did teach me a thing or two about selling/promotion. If you notice, when you have been convinced to buy something by a sales erson, they don't come across as arrogant. They are helpful. They make you feel like they're trying to help you, and that that their product/service is what you need for "X" reason.

I really believe in my service and what I can do for my clients, so I promote the benefits to my prospects. I dn't think I'm arrogant. I don't think I'm the absolute best writer on the web.I love to help people so that's how I approach it. I hate selling. As long as I focus on helping these businesses by providing high quality content/copywriting services, my promotion efforts go much more smoothly.

You are afraid of being seen as an arrogant prick. Oh wait, that's me. But then again I don't really like talking about myself in general.

But there's a difference between selling yourself and just rambling on about yourself when no one cares. Perhaps you are afraid that you might not know the difference?
